Sleeping Bear Dunes Art

"Day Farm From Sleeping Bear", oil on linen, 36x24, $3300. framed

This painting was accepted by jurors for inclusion in "The Art of Sleeping Bear" fine art publication, to be released in August. The books will available for purchase at the Cottage Book Shop in Glen Arbor prior to the exhibit. The exhibit will be at the Dennos Art Museum in Traverse City, opening Oct. 14, 2013, running to Jan. 2014.

Prints of this painting will be available at Treeline Gallery in Suttons Bay, MI.

A second work that I painted to enter into the competition will be at Treeline Gallery this summer.

Fresh off the Easel

This studio painting is based off a plein air study painted during a PAAWM paint out last fall.
The 12x9 study was quickly painted on site and I knew right then that I needed to paint a larger version of that scene. I am still contemplating on painting a vertical like the study, in pastel for my shows this summer.

New painting from study

Farm in Winter, pastel, 16x20, $1300. framed

A new pastel painting inspired by a plain air study and the reference photos of the location. The study was featured on "Day 27" of my 30 Day painting adventure. As you can see, I didn't change much except enlarge the composition and add the hickory nut tree that was there. I was very focused on color harmony here and getting that "fresh"snow look with multiple shades of light tints.

This pastel was painted on acid-free UART sanded paper, grade #400.

Paintings at "Celebration"

Tonight is the opening for the 40th annual Celebration of the Arts reception from 7-9pm. 

If you are able to be in downtown Grand Rapids the exhibit is in the exhibition hall of the First United Methodist Church. The juried competition runs until Februrary 13, 2013.
