| Trout Stream in Autumn, oil, 24x30, $2500. framed This studio painting is based off a plein air study painted during a PAAWM paint out last fall. The 12x9 study was quickly painted on site and I knew right then that I needed to paint a larger version of that scene. I am still contemplating on painting a vertical like the study, in pastel for my shows this summer. Hope you enjoy the painting! |

| "Golden Maple in October", pastel, 6x6, $225. framed Another painting using the same colors. This scene was taken from the same day and place as the "October Sky" painting. In fact, I debated whether to paint this scene, looking north or the hills and clouds looking west. I could not paint both plein air as the morning light quickly changed. | "October Sky II", pastel, 24x24, $1500. framed This painting is near completion and since I needed to post something for today, this it is. It could still be a work in progress for awhile. If anyone has a critique, I would appreciate it! This pastel is on Wallis sanded paper. I started out with a warm underpainting of several shades of raw sienna and burnt sienna. Brushed it in with rubbing alcohol. I was very interested in letting the warm glow of the underpainting come through the layers of gray in the sky. | "Cloud Study II", pastel, 6x6, $195 framed in gold frame As referred to in yesterday's blog, this is the second cloud study for the larger studio painting that I started today. I like the cloud shadows on the land and the diagonals of the hills that make a Z shape composition. This study has more saturated color in the land masses and less drama in the sky. I am going to take what I learned about painting these clouds along with the composition of the plein air study to assist in the larger painting. I will post the larger painting when finished! This is one of two studies that I did yesterday from a plein air work and photos of the place. I will post the other one tomorrow. The plein air painting (below) was painted on a windy October day and the clouds were amazing to watch, they changed every few seconds. It was hard to grab onto a pattern of clouds, let alone get the tones and colors close to correct. My intent is to use these studies along with the oil that I did on location and paint a larger studio version. |

| October Cornfields, oil, 9x12, $650. I was very happy to get out on those warmer mid-October days to paint out in the field. My duck boots are still mud caked, but soon to be switched to warmer winter boots! |

| Looking East, pastel, 24x30. $2300. framed This pastel only received slight changes. I added the tracks in the road, and broke up the road shadows. The trees were improved and the distant field and road grayed down. Overall, I like this painting even if I am the only one who notices the changes. A word of wisdom that applies here is "never leave something in a painting that does not work." |

| Pond Reflections-Autumn, pastel, 18x24, $1500. framed OK, I changed the name. It was "Glorious", which was appropriate, but kind of short and not descriptive of the whole painting. The original work was painted in 2009, so I have had this painting for a little while and it had not found a home. Overall, I think the stream did not read well as a stream because it lacked the needed reflections. I am very happy with these recent changes of the reflections and some implied detail along the water's edge. |

| Creek Reflections, oil on linen, 24x30, $2600.framed This is a favorite place for me to paint with my friend Patti Mollema. I used several plein air studies along with some photos for this painting. I was attracted to the early morning light as it lit up the creek banks and the hazy distant trees were a nice contrast. I used oil primed Claussen C15 linen and enjoyed working on such a beautiful surface. |
